Title: Pre-service matters
Post by: JasonGotaProblem on June 06, 2025, 11:31:25 AM
Last month when I was fishing at the beach the rod with my Newell 220 got pulled down and dragged thru the sugar flour sand of St Pete Beach and got fully submerged. I rinsed it off and kept fishing with it. I submerged it in a bucket of clean water that afternoon and let it dry out. Then promptly forgot about it for a month.

After I got all the sand out and regreased it, it's good as new. As expected.

I don't think this will surprise anyone. But the system works.

It always makes my wife laugh when I tear down a brand new reel for a pre-service.  Bill

I'm still leary of tearing down a new baitcaster or LD conventional before first use. What if I mess something up before I see how well it works?

Greggy, it's simple. Then you buy a second one to reverse engineer the assembly of the first one from. :)
