I have an Avet MXL 5:8:1 MC in the shop. Had a bad pinion gear. Called Avet as it appeared to me that the MC model I have is not shown on their website. Contacted Avet and was assured by the parts person that the MXL 5:8:1 G2 schematic and parts would work on the MC model as well. Turns out that's not entirely so. The G2 pinion is slightly larger than the MC it seems. Found out when I tried to put the new part in. Measured both the old and new to make sure the new pinion was a different size and found the G2 pinion is definitely larger.
Wondering if anyone has had this problem and what they did so solve this. It appears that the pinion and the main gear can be used between the two if both are swapped out. so thinking I may have to buy a new G2 main gear. Not sure if I can get the older MC pinion gear from Avet anymore as I'm waiting for their call back on the issue. The parts person is out until Monday.
Thanks, Steve
MC is the magnetic cast control. It has nothing to do with the gears. A G1 MC vs non-MC are identical other than the MC. Same for the G2's. It may be that the G1's and G2's aren't completely the same in terms of the gears and other internals.
Try Boca Bearings, they are really great. Give them the dimensions and choose the quality level.

Steve - Good detailed report, I am about to ask questions on the obvious but hey, sometimes that's the stuff that trips us up. You didn't go into a lot of detail on how the pinion gear is "bad"? And as has been recounted here in many other threads - for the pinion gear to be shot and the main gear fine - well, definitely an area to look at. I know that generally it is always good to swap gears as a set. and I wonder if maybe they main does not have issues as well. I know you mentioned size difference, but some details will help. Same diameter? Same tooth count? Sorry to ask niggling questions and having torm apart many Avet's, I'm sure this will be an easy fix.... - john

I'm fairly sure that if I buy both the main gear and pinion they will fit. The pinion is just too rusty to use. Inspected the main gear and it seems fine. Swapped out the pinion from another Avet I have in the shop and the main checks out just fine. That's why I was trying to buy only the pinion as I know the main is fine. Trying to save some money.

It would appear that the pinion and the main gear of the G2's are not the not same as the older non G2 model. I think I may have buy the main gear and the pinion to match to make it work. My problem is that Avet told me all parts were inter changeable between the G2 and the older models. That is not so regarding the pinion and I'm sure the main as well. I wanted to make sure I posted this to maybe help someone who runs across the same problem.

The specs on the G2's aren't the same as the G1's... like the max drag. Therefore I'd assume the drag is different and not surprised that the gears don't interchange. The G2's can't be completely the same as the G1's. The G2's are what the G1's should've been! I have a new Raptor but I think the only difference are the cross bars on the frame. However there should be no difference between a MC and non-MC other than the mag stuff in the non handle side plate.
Not that this helps you, but it is kind of a relief if the G1 and G2 have different mechanicals. Avet claims that the G2 has a higher max drag, but I've never before seen a reason that would be so.
Sounds like the person you talked to at Avet didn't know, or thought they knew. Either way, sometimes it takes a little effort to make sure for the benefit of the customer.

That is what it turned out to be. The customer rep admitted they should have known the difference as I had spoken to them before I bought the parts as it was unclear to me if the schematic on the website represented the older model I had. So now I have the main gear coming to take care of the situation.
Thanks for all the replies here.
