Title: Penn 320 GTI clicker issue
Post by: rclements on June 12, 2025, 12:24:45 PM
Rebuilding a Penn 320 GTI and having an issue with the clicker assembly. Checked spacing on idler gear and all is good.  However, once you push down to engage the clicker, then push up to disengage it, the click tongue jumps up and rests on top of click spring.  Happens about every time. Might be missing something simple. Unless the click button is not correct. Has anyone had this issue or advice?
Thanks, Raymond

The rivet holding the clicker button on the outside to the clicker pawl in the inside is loose or badly worn.  It's a difficult fix.  It may be possible to peen it back in place but there is a real chance of cracking the side plate if it is not supported properly.  Attempting replacement is probably as dangerous as attempting repair. The sure-fire fix is to replace the whole side plate.

I would change the spring and the pin/post. The post should be held in place with a clip. I have the parts if needed but I live in Canada so mail might be a pain.
