I am on the hunt again for a used fishing reel.
I absolutely love my old gold calcutta 250
I have abused this reel and it has held up very well
Wants:
Round machined aluminum baitcaster.
Better drags then my single washer in my calcutta.
Less fragile plastic inner parts that will no longer be available
You do have Carbontex washers in your 250? I have them in both of mine!
The Shimano Cardiff has a cast aluminum frame and four fiber drag washers. There are still lots of little plastic parts that will become obsolete when the next model comes out. Shimano's little trick.
How 'bout Penn Squall?
I have not tried the carbontex drag washers.
Can you send me a link?
Looking for a newer version of the calcutta 250 i am replacing.
I want more cranking power and better drags.
i was considering Pluton, Ryoga, Calcutta TE and Conquests?
Maybe an Abu Garcia Morrum or Record, but not sure about the plastic bits and parts availability. Penn International 9xx are really nice and most parts still seem to be available other than side plates. Interested in what you find...
I have a Calcutta conquest 250 DC, 30lb braid to 20lb floro leader. Very nice reel that casts well. I use it for swim baits, so far so good!
Calcutta TE are no longer supported either but I love my TE 300! A current Shimano model the size of a 250 would be a Calcutta Conquest, TranX 200, Curado 200.
www.smoothdrag.com for the Carbontex washers. Grease them with Cal's drag grease.
