Title: J.A. Coxe No. 60-C
Post by: jgp12000 on July 10, 2025, 07:45:17 PM
I have this J.A.Coxe No.60-C & have read some of the Coxe reels were made from German Silver? Is there a list of which models are
German Silver or identifying marks to specify?

How old could this reel be?

Just researched a similar reel I have on Orca's website. Yours is nickel plated brass. Early models 1947-1950 had a cork arbor in spool. Later versions 1951-1956? had a hollow metal arbor. Nice reels!

German silver has a distinctive color.  It's not as shiny as plated and has a bit of a yellowish tint to it.

The Coxe freshwater reels were introduced in 1939: model's 10, 15, 25. The model's 15 and 25 were the GS (NS) ones. I don't believe they continued making the 15 when they picked up production after the war. The 10 was continued post-war. The 60 was introduced post-war. Both the 10 and 60 are of chrome plated brass with aluminum spools. I have both the 10 and 60 and both are high quality reels and fine casters. The 25 was NS until the aluminum Coronet came out ('51).
