I picked up this reel recently and thought I would post some pictures. It has more "patina" than any reel that I have ever purchased, but it was intriguing, so I paid a small fee to see what it was. According to Ben Wright's book, it is an early 50's Swiss made reel sold in the USA by the Salmo Company of NY, NY. It is a Model No.1 Lite/Medium size, manual line pickup. Book value is $125, but I think that price would be for a "pretty" one.
It is an all metal (except the handle knob) and very simple, solid reel. I'm glad I picked it up.

Nice find, Steve, lucky you! Those Salmos are tough find and don't come up very often. If you check Ben's pricing criteria the prices he references are for reels in mint/like new condition. He also discusses how much to deduct off of those prices based on various conditions.

Howdy Tommy,
Thank you for your input. I kind of expected that you would have a mint Salmo in your stable. You seem to have at least one of everything🙂
I have not been able to acquire a copy of Mr Wright's book just yet. It is a bit scarce.
Great to have your input.
Looks to shaped like the Swiss made "Record" from that era.
Steve (Sandbar), I sent you a PM a couple days ago, not sure if you got it, though.

Hey Tommy
I received it.
I hope to have a day off tomorrow and will PM you back.
Thanks!

Tomorrow evening at some point, probably after 7 or 8. Have an out of town funeral to attend during the mid part of the day.
