Good afternoon
I have been given a vintage Penn tuna stick 5 1/2 ft 30-80lb rod. The epoxy is peeling off of the guides and needs a rewrap it has a roller for the first guide and a roller tip. The guides all look good no corrosion. I was wondering if it is a good idea to change the guide set up to all casting guides or keep the original configuration. Will probably not troll with the rod but use for heavy bottom fishing for grouper or bait fishing for tuna. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Those are nice rods. If it were mine, and all the guides are good, I would probably recoat all the guide wraps with Flex Cote and use it. At first, I worried about roller guides with braid, but my Star Rod Paraflex has a roller tip, and I use it with heavy braid. It's probably my favorite rod for grouper fishing.
Nice the guides are in really good shape I was worried about the rollers and braid. The wraps seem intact and in good shape. I will probably do an epoxy coat and fish it see what it can do. Thank you!
