Title: Fun little project
Post by: reelynew on August 28, 2025, 10:59:16 PM
Thanks to GFish for inspiring this gear swap.  I found a good deal on a donor 408 and took out its gears and swapped them into my 308, along with the handle.  Even got away with putting it back together on the kitchen table.  As my wife picked-up the reel and before she could end the sentence, do you think it is really going to spin faster, she noticed the gears and said, those gears are made of some nice metal.

So friends, what do we have here now?  It's not quite a 308 any longer and not a 408.  I'm not finding much info on the 358 besides hearing that it was the speedy brother of the 308 Prince.  I'm ok with Frankenstein reel.

The high-speed telltale here is the red side plate screw.

Nice job!

Clean and well done.

Best, Fred
