The bait at cedros was large and broke my sabiki, it was a #8 with 30# main line.
Does anyone make smaller sabikis with heavier main line?
Mine all got destroyed also by: maks, calico, bonito and baracuda... :-\

Lee,
I have used this style for the past 4 years and done pretty well with them. They are also available in size 6 with the same line strengths. But they dont handle barracuda well!!!
I have a variety:
4 hook, #16, 40# Main Line with 30# droppers. Hayabusa
6 hook, 1/0, 50# Main Line with 40# droppers. Sannu
6 hook, 2/0, 60# Main Line with 50# droppers. Sannu
And numerous smaller ones with more hooks/smaller hooks/lighter line. And to be honest, I'm a "little" skeptical on the Sannu brands because the line looks a little thin for the # they are claiming, but given the prices they sell them for at the PCS Show I am sure they are the cheapest of the cheap. I'll put the word out (or you folks can remind me) next year (March 5-8 in Orange County) and I will be happy to grab them. They usually have silly deals like "Buy 3 Get one Free" and stuff like that.
Lee - Since you are on the 10-day when I get off the 8-day I will just hand off whatever survives my trip to Ed or one of the other guys that is doing "Double Duty" to give to you so you will be set for your trip. - john
i bought these cheap sabiki copies. i realized that i should have purchased the large ones. it's just that the numbers are backwards. still, they are adequately described, if only i would have payed attention. what i learned from brendan is to use a weight that is 10-12 ounces. brendan was pulling up 5-6 baits at a time because he was using a heavy weight. once a bait was hooked, others could still hook up because the sabiki stayed straight up and down. when i hooked up with a 4 ounce weight, the hooked mackerel would go crazy and others could not catch up with the other hooks.
and if there are barracuda underneath you, then you just have to move.

Those kinda look like the hook type with flat-no eye-top. If so, it seems like they'ed be difficult to tie on a new fly when a toothy critter bites one off. I guess a Sabiki is supposed to simulate a small school of baitfish, so the more, the better.
One could buy the raw ingredients and make their own. Line thickness, fly placement, wing material and hook type could be customized.
It could have been a bad factory knot that broke below the swivel but it said on the package 30# mainline.
Hayabusa and Sasame make heavy duty ones.

I have heard of guys cleaning up with homemade sabikis. Get #4 baitholder hooks and some 40-60 lb test and tie four dropper loops, cut the loops and snell a hook on each. Bait up the sabiki with a nice piece of yesterday's bonito . It works well to fillet the bonito then fillet the fillet until you are left with like 1/4 inch of meat on the skin, plus a 1" thick skinless slab. Leave that slab out in the sun away from cats! You can then take it the next day and mash it up with some water to make a nice chum for the macks. They go nuts for the baited sabikis and they can't break the homemade ones. I agree with alan/brendan that a heavy weight works best
