Title: Trinidad Help
Post by: Jmundj on September 02, 2025, 01:39:49 AM
Hi all,

Having some difficulty with a Trinidad 16A. I've had this reel apart countless times, never an issue until now. When the reel is fully assembled, reel disengages and goes into free spool. When I engage, it won't crank. I may get a few rotations out of it, but that's it. It seems everything is fine until I assemble the star drag and handle.

Any insight as to what the issue is?

Thanks in advance.

so many times i've had something apart, only to put it back together and have it not work.  then back and forth a few more times, and it suddenly works fine.  oh, and i have no idea why....   :-\

That makes me feel a lot better if it also happens to the expert! ;D

Did you put new line on it? If so Are you 100,000% sure it's not line slipping on the spool? I give you the benefit of the doubt, but it's so shockingly common that I just have to ask the question.

And or Drag Stack not properly installed or moved when you insert assembly or even the washers behind the Star Wheel in the wrong order

No line currently on the reel.

That was my first thought. Yoke is on correctly, even tried flipping it upside down. Same result.

drag stack and washer behind the gear installed correctly. This is a mystery to me. Was thinking maybe something happened to the clutch bearing?

This is a Hail Mary but does the spool move side to side at all in the frame when fully assembled?

Did you install any New parts like Drag Discs,Drag Washers, or any Shims, in the  array between the Star Wheel and Bearing ? .

If the Roller Clutch Bearing were bad you should be able to tell when it is apart by turning it on the Bridge  I would think .
  Looking at the Schematic
Trinidad 16A Schematic (http://images.salsify.com/image/upload/s--uu1QhZYv--/m7kkgvcgwuu4dju5cvwo.pdf)
(I do Not Have this Reel ) It looks pretty straight forward
Hate to even mention it but is the A?R gear at the bottom of the assy in upside down ???? Maybe
