What's up with the tacky looking gold handle side disk? Penn has a thing about gold, but really?

Was previously looking at this at one tackle shop on backorder. The video posted states "guys you're just gonna have to trust me on this one, it his a massive stainless steel gear in here" The Description at Melton tackle says otherwise. Says the Fathom 500LP has a brass main gear and bronze pinion gear? Can you clarify this please? That's a pretty big error in advertising information.IMG_6567.png

Both gears being stainless is strongest!

Hmm, not sure what happened to my original answer.
Anyway, yes, the gears [both main and pinion] are stainless on the LP500.
It looks like Melton's IT dept. just used the info from the current [smaller] models.

2 types of Cast control; external looks like magnetic? The other, centrifugal or friction?

Yeah, that's pretty silly on their part. They really should correct that. Thanks for clearing things up. Can't wait for somebody to get a hold of it and give us a peek inside. Looks like it would be a hell of a surf reel too. Does the mag dial indicator happen to be the same one, as on the other Fathom and Squall casting reels?

Not like the larger Fathom/Squall conventional reels.
Pretty much the same as the current smaller Low Profile models.

These reels are arriving in stores this week.
Some SoCal tackle shops have them now!

There seeems to be some talk about these reels having some kind of problem in the original design.  I have seen that one prominent Socal Tackle shop has pulled these from his shelves, until Penn fixes the problem.  I was ready to go pick one up on my way south for my upcoming long range trip, but now I'm pausing until I hear some details about what's going on...

Missed a drag washer in factory assembly process.
Reels being sent back for retrofitting with the proper part.
Probably not back in stores until mid-December.
