Title: ABU Garcia Black Max 3600 Line Guide Nut question
Post by: cornmuse on September 10, 2025, 02:53:41 PM
I've rebuilt two of these 3600 and I'm impressed with the reels.  They'll be perfect for inshore "BFS" but I've got a problem with one of them.  There's some corrosion or something on the bottom of the the Line Guide Nut on one of the reels. It's smooth as silk until I tighten the nut, then not so good.

The part seems to be unavailable.  Abu Garcia Black Max 3600 (02 00) Ambassadeur 975040 OEM replacement Line Guide+Line Guide Nut Line Guide+Line Guide Nut Obsolete - Not Available Part Number:975040

Is there an alternative aftermarket or maybe titanium line guide upgrade to fit this reel? What are my options.

Thanks for the patience with a new Abu enthusiast.

That nut never need to replace ,all it need is clean it and put in a little grease .The nut should be tight up all the way in .The part you may need to replace is the guide pin, make sure the pin drop in all the way, turn it also crank the handle to make sure it drop in slot before screw in the nut .Some guide pin worn out too much and get stuck then you need to replace it

I've already swapped pins and nuts from the two reels.  There is definitely some rust or something on the bottom of the one pictured.  Switch reels and the problem follows the nut, not the pawl or pin.  Both pins are clean.

I've soaked the nut in WD40 and tried scraping the black hard material from the bottom using a bodkin but it's not coming loose.

Any ideas?

This case all you need to clean out the rust to allow the pin can turn easy

Understood.  WD40, scraping.  Not coming loose.  What else can I try. I'm not even sure its rust as its black.

Post a pic of the offending part lol! Pictures always seem to help. If it's the pic above, can't see too much pretty blurry?

Edit: Ugggh! Couldn't even see the picture at the top, It was blank! Now there's a picture there? Sorry.

Definitely, need to get some kind of wire brush in there, and get that crud, out of there. Ultrasonic cleaner might break it up?
