I have a Johnson Century reel that my daughter use when she was young that left in my house . I gave that reel to one of my oldest grand kid and all other keep ask for the same reel . Been looking for Johnson Century 100B for them then 1 member here show me where to get it
Now what rod I should make for them to use these reels ? My daughter use this reel with a short casting rod that I won in smallmouth bass tournament on Fox river , with a piston grip the cast button is too high for thump to reach for little hand and I often see my daughter hold the line on left hand to cast . I think about a old True Temper handle would be better for small kid hand because reel mount lower than handle so they reach easier
QT those guys look brand new! Ugly Stik GX2 is a good inexpensive rod,I prefer cork handles though that the elite & lite versions have.Fenwick HMX is pricier but you get what you pay for. I have one of my 100Bs mounted on a NOS Eagle Claw rod it looks classic.
I like the Eagle Claw , Can you take picture side view of this rod . Want to see how close from handle to cast button
IMO it is just at the right spot to depress the button, being the handle is angled somewhat.
I have a Zebco made handle & you can build the rod to suit your needs.
I guess it's not surprising that these offset reel seats seemed to become instantly obsolete and stop being made when low profile reels started appearing.
I have at least one of these seats that will never be installed by me on a rod, and I can think of a few beater rods in my "maybe one day I'll rebuild it" pile with these type of seats that can be removed and not missed. They're yours if you want them, but my track record for sending out free stuff in a timely manner is pretty dismal this year.
Thank you but you only have one , I need 4 and I think I know where to get them . I have plenty of time when the fish no bite
Shakespeare made spincasters that were what I'd call an "under spin" reel. Hold it like a spinner rig to cast, kick the handle backwards while holding the line(same as a spinner), cast. These are old well made reels, nearly all metal, from the 50's and 60's.
Since my hands are big enough, the Johnson Cen. 100 is a better choice. I have about 6 spincasters in my collection and it is #1.
Under spin is the first reel i think for a kid but somehow they don't like it . I bought some Daiwa underspin ,very smooth reel but they like Johnson better , may be how it looks
I never use spincast , my first reel is Daiwa . that time Daiwa much cheaper than Mitchell .
I going to use some solid carbon ice rod to make rods for them .Will get some handles with offset reel seat . the 4 rods will look the same accept guides color

Thanks James ,that is the handle style I need . Reel is mount lower and line come out lower ,shot straight to casting guide . Zebco handle may be expensive in collector book . Here just for kid rod I only need it function
Get some True Temper handle today ,made in Japan quite heavy compare to most rod handle today . Look good with Johnson reel and look good on bait casting also . I think it's too heavy for kids will find another way to make these rods
