Title: D.Q. 3000 Spool/Drag Click Pawl
Post by: Gfish on October 17, 2025, 09:31:17 PM
This thing is so quiet as drag is pulled, I can barely hear it. So can it be changed-out for one made outta metal instead of plastic? Can the brass pivot pin be removed from the spool bottom?
Sometimes it seems like DQ has to tease me by including one plastic part where it shouldn't be amongst all that quality metal.

I see from a closeup view of your picture that there's quite a bit of grease on the pawl.  Try wiping off some of the grease, at minimum from the side of the pawl that engages with the spool arbor gear and see if that make any difference.

My DQ 1202 graphite spool makes quite a bit of noise and its dry. I will check my other spools tomorrow.

Also, if you have a flat washer on the bottom, ensure it sits under the pawl next the the asbestos washer, otherwise it might impede the clicker from engaging with the spool arbor gear.

Greg,

Can you fabricate a metal dawg out of a piece of brass copper or aluminum and slip it in the groove on that stud?

Yes you can remove the rivet . It is a twist rivet ,you can push it out with a small punch from the inside of the spool . You maybe able to use a metal one from a broken spool.
