Whenever I am hit with one of those type of projects, I go to my local "not Big Orange or Big Blue" hardware store.  If you are lucky enough to have an Ace or a True Value (or even luckier, a small independent) they will have thousands of options in a couple of aisles of bins (stainless/brass/copper/nylon you name it) and usually sell individual units, not packs of 50. - john

For under spool shims , I make them from plastic and/or aluminum containers .

My local ACE stores are outstanding...Sunshine ACE has lots of fishing stuff too, and MRT ACE at the other end of the county has some ToadFish and other fishing stuff. Either wray, it shows up on the CC bill like it's house-related stuff, not fishing stuff...

I sometimes make shims out of crimp-on electrical ring terminals, either SS or plated copper. Cut the ring off shape it by hand with sandpaper.

I've found plenty on Aliexpress - any size and thickness you can think of.

Would the reel in question benefit from shims that also act as drag(friction) washers? If there's a metal spindle/click plate that the spool sits on, delrin and(or) carbon-Tex "might" be best. Maybe check Smoooth Drag in the for sale section of the forum.

McMaster Carr is the place to get shims.
