Title: Daiwa Basara Help
Post by: surfcasterTx on October 20, 2025, 02:30:26 PM
Hi all,

I recently received a 2015 Basara 200H from Japan. It is a beautiful piece of machinery but I've run into a problem during my first overhaul of the reel. IMG_8772.jpeg

The reel is missing a copper shim that is supposed to go underneath the pawl (#33). Anyone know where I can get a shim to replace this? It's lack of presence did not seem to affect reel performance on the first outing.IMG_8802.jpeg

That type of shim might be in an Ambassadeur, a Shakespeare, or even a Penn levelwind. Alan (the boss) used to have teflon buttons in different thicknesses to place under the pawl. They were solid disks not washers. I made some out of milk jug plastic that worked well enough.

I recall reading one of his posts mentioning the Teflon washers. I'll see if I can "borrow" one from another reel. Thanks for the help
