Random facts you say;

Astronomers calculate when the spring and autumnal equinox is each year.  Equinox is when the length of the day and length of the night are equal.  For 2026 the sprig equinox will be March 20 at 7:45 am in Los Angeles.  But if you look at the time of official sunrise and sunset on that day you will find that it is 12 hr, 04 minutes between sunrise and sunset.  The day length was exactly 12 hours back on March 17, 2026.

This is because official sunrise is the defined as the moment the sun first shows above the horizon and official sunset is the moment the sun completely disappears below the horizon.  If official sunrise and sunset was defined as the moment when the sun is exactly half way above or below the horizon, then the difference would be exactly 12 hours on March 20th.

My Grandfather used to go into Mexicali once a week for the best "Comida de Chino" this side of the Pacific. He was a Game Warden, lived in Holtville, Calexico, all over Imperial valley. He had his boots, belts, holsters, suits all made in Mexicali. Bought much of his wife's Jewelery there. Had his teeth, cars, dogs fixed in Mexicali. He had that town dialed.

Had some cool custom pavers made in Tecate

People think of calendar events and their relation to astronomical events as static. But it's not really true. The length of a year varies from year to year, whether you're considering the solar year (earth in same position relative to the sun) or sidereal year (earth in same angular position relative to the constellations).

My understanding is the variance is a few minutes from year to year, and the solar and sidereal year differ from each other by about a half hour.
