Title: More obscure reels I'm looking for
Post by: CincyDavid on December 05, 2025, 07:50:37 PM
It would appear that Zangi built some spinning reels for Horrocks-Ibbotson, maybe late 60s, early 70s, Models D and S. Does anyone own either of these or know more about them?

Have yet to see either one of them in person or on daBay.

I don't know what the heck's wrong with me that I'm drawn to these oddball, holy grail, never gonna find em reels. I'd be happy to just see color pics of them to confirm they exist, just like those crazy H-I 1945 and 1947 that Shakespeare built.

From what little I can find online the Models D and S are Delfinos, so they're big saltwater reels and they likely sold very few.

The "D" is the 2nd version Delfino, internal bail trip, in RH/LH crank. The S is the same version in LH/RH crank.

I've never seen either on a H-I box, but I'd bet that H-I was only a US distributor just like they were for the Record 600 & 700 reels. I doubt there were any H-I indicators on either of those Delfino reels.

Thanks Tommy!  I appreciate the clarification. I'm going to call off the hunt for these two then and go back to other obscure reels, and a few not-so-obscure ones.

I was able to pick up a DelFino several months ago on Ebay for a pretty fair price. I have been searching for a replacement spool with no luck. The reel had old line on it that made the corrosion invisible when I purchased it.
The reel is a Tank !

I have never handled one but they are supposed to be giant and heavy.
