Title: Replacement bearings for Newell 220
Post by: captquint99 on December 17, 2025, 12:56:32 AM
I need to replace the bearings on my Newell 220. I am looking at Boca Bearings, there are many choices. They offer ABEC 5 or 7 ceramic, ceramic orange seal ABEC 7, and Special Saltwater Series Ceramic Hybrid Fishing Reel Bearing ABEC 3. I use the reel for saltwater bottom fishing and also casting jigs. Which ones should I buy. Thank you.

I use the stainless abec 5. They're more than adequate.  clean the factory lube out with your favorite solvent and a couple drops of your favorite light oil and you'll be fine. I've used all those flavors of bearings in my Newells and I can't tell the difference except full ceramic are noisy

Same as Sheridan, I put abec 5 stainless steel in my Newell 229 and they work very well for me.
