Title: 750SS questions
Post by: Uncle Grizzly on January 15, 2026, 12:09:11 AM
I imagine I'm in the right place to ask questions about a Penn 750 SS.  I just received this as a new in the box and it appears to be an unused reel.  It is stiff with 30+ years of old grease.  There was no manual in the box with the reel but there was a sealed plastic bag containing a tube of Penn Spinfisher lube and a spare pivot.  Is that pivot threaded to change the reel handle to the right side?  Next question: This reel has a chrome handle.  I have never seen any of the Z or SS series reels with anything other than a gold handle.  Is this correct for the reel? I will include pictures when I get my laptop fixed, it is not reading my phone right now

Thanks for reading, Uncle Grizzly in SE Michigan (AKA Buster)

They are great old-school spinning reels. Lucky-you, I had to buy the pivot separately for right-hand cranking on a 650. The 1000 series models that came next had a design that allowed switching from right-left hand without changing to a separate pivot.
Don't remember about handle color. I sold my 710Z, 650 and 750 series reels but still have 2-7500's with black handles.
Heavy, mostly metal reels, the best I own.

You can look/download the manual at Mysticreelparts.com.

Yeah, the early issue 750ss had a chrome handle. If the box is original to the reel it should have "Reel of Champions" printed on the top. You have to change the pivot on those to change the hand retrieve.

Here's an early ad: BTW, there are a couple of service videos on YouTube for the 750ss that might help you out.

The best feature for me was the double A/R on/off system. One was spring-loaded with a click sound and the other was silent mode with the dog-ear actuator. 4 choices; no A/R, silent A/R, click A/R, or double A/R(2-dogs)for strength.

:al  :al Thank you for your input fellas.  I guess its never to old to learn something new.  Last week I learned that Penn 109s are knuckle busters.  I got my first 109 last week  :fish
