Title: Need Handle For Shimano Symetre SY-2000R
Post by: Walleye Guy on January 28, 2026, 06:42:42 PM
I need a handle for a Shimano Symetre SY-2000R spinning reel.  The original handle, P/N 2316, listed on the schematic is no longer available.  Does anyone here have one they would sell me?  Or does someone happen to know another handle that will fit and function as the original?  Thanks in advance.

Can we get a pic of the handle attachment? A measurement of the length would make this even easier.

I'll try to get a measurement and report back.  This is actually for my older brother's reel...the handle has been broken for a few years and I offered to help him find a replacement...but we live two hours apart.  Here are two pictures from Ebay of the same reel with an unbroken handle.  The part of the handle that penetrates into the reel is the traditional square drive but I realize sometimes that length varies.

Looks like, between all of us, you might find exactly the right crank.

Here are about 600-700 loose handles.  And one container seems to just have Shimano-type cranks.

The one in between and on top of the two containers may be a match.

We would need the measurement of the square shaft length & width.

You guys are great, thank-you so much.  I'm working on getting measurements but it might take a few days.  I'm going to get the distance across the flats and the length of the square shaft that penetrates the reel body.  As I type this I realized I also need to get the inside diameter of the part of the handle that fits over the bearing boss in the reel body.

Hopefully will have those measurements this weekend.  Thanks for your patience!

I have the measurements and also attached a few more pictures:

Distance across square flats: .175"
Shaft length: .989"
Step/stop outside diameter (this is the metal part adjacent to the shaft that contacts the reel and is located inside the skirt): .318"
Skirt inside diameter: .613"

Fred, if you have a matching handle let me know how I can send you payment.  Also, I have a couple more no-longer-available Shimano spool parts that I would be happy to pay you for if you have them.

The one Fred seems to have rummaged from his enormous collection looks very, very similar to your original. Hopefully measurements confirm the fit.

This new one looks like a match.

The slight variation in measurements is likely due to at what po8 t the measurements were taken.

For example, hard to measure an inside circle exactly.

And the plastic shaft cover collar slides back and forth.

I'd give this a shot.

Let me know where to send it in a PM, and I'll get it out tomorrow.

N/C.

Fred,

I think you're right about the measurement differences and that will probably work.

I and my brother both appreciate your generosity!

If I may ask...

1. Do you happen to have a spare spool for the same reel?
2. Do you happen to have the line clip that has been missing from my Shimano Solstace 2000RB ever ever since I bought it new?  I attached a few pictures, one showing the void from the missing clip and the other is of the same reel that has the clip.  The Shimano parts diagram, also attached, does not list a separate P/N for the clip.

I am happy to pay you for all of these parts.  Last time, if you recal, I even included some extra because you have that loooong drive to the mailbox.  ;D

I am traveling for work this week so please forgive my slow responses.

Is the spool aluminum or graphite?

I have around 200 new Shimano spools.

Will take a look tomorrow.

Surprised if I didn't have some.

Looks like I found a match on the spool, metal.

I'll include a couple extra that you can rob the line keeper from.

Fred, both spools are aluminum: my brother's Symetre SY-2000R reel with the broken handle and my Solstace 2000RB with the missing plastic line retainer.

Question regarding the metal spool in your picture above: I don't see the quick release button so is it for a front drag reel?

For the line retainer, yes I can easily rob the plastic clip from one of those other spool. 👍

Without the reel on the bench —- don't know.

I have around 3000 loose spools, somewhat organized into brands and sizes —- but Shimano made about 9000 different models of spinners —- and no two reels have common sized or attachment similarities.

So you can send me the reel, and I'll try to match a spool —- or just go online to eBay or other sellers.

Best, Fred

I removed the push button top from the graphite 2000 black spool, and installed it on the metal 2000 spool.

Seems to work —- but without a reel in hand, we won't know for sure.

Might be best for me to just send these to you, and if they work, good.

If not, at least we won't have all of the hassle and postage expense.

Let me know.

Thanks, Fred

Fred,

I'll take 'em and I appreciate your generosity.

I'll PM you my address and I still insist on paying.

THANK-YOU!

ps: I just tried to PM you but the Alan Tani site says it can't find you.  Can you please make sure your personal email is listed where it's supposed to be listed?  Otherwise, PM me and I'll respond.
