Title: Heddon Spinning Reels w/metal spools?
Post by: jgp12000 on February 11, 2026, 08:51:43 PM
I am reading  all the Heddon threads now & just came across the
281 & noticed it has a metal spool.I am curious
If any of the two-tone green reels have metal spools. In particular the 233 or 248?

I have a 277 and it has a metal spool, but my 220-R has a plastic spool.

Mark what size reel would you compare the 277 to?

I think the 277 is around a 6000-size spinning reel. Maybe similar to or a bit smaller than a Penn 704z. xjchad had a nice thread about the 277 a few years ago. There are pictures of it there:

Looked at some notes I have, and I believe the following Heddon spinning reels are among those that have metal spools: 222, 205-R, 282.

I have a 248 and a 260R, both with metal spools.
