Title: 285 Bail Nuts
Post by: jgp12000 on February 15, 2026, 09:17:01 PM
The bail nut on my 285 uses a 5 mm socket it also fits a Shakes 2210 II that uses a 7 mm socket.I am assuming the bail stud/post is M2.5 does anyone know
If the threads are .35 or.45? Scratch all that after a trip to ACE the 285 bail stud/post is M3 with .5 pitch threads.

A standard M3 nut uses a 6 mm socket who knew?

I read your post right up to the last sentence and trollied off to get my thread pitch gauge and check one of mine. I checked and I too came up with a .5 thread pitch. Got back on and saw your last sentence. LOL A good thing is that when I checked mine I found that the previous owner put a nylon nut on it. Not a nyloc nut, and actual nylon nut. That nut took a 1/4" nut driver. I don't think that's stock so I need to let Fred know to add one to my current order "if he has it". lol
