Title: Shimano LRS Drag Cam Issue
Post by: First Light on March 11, 2026, 01:58:05 PM
I have a Shimano Torsa 40 with the standard LRS drag cam. I'm having an issue with the drag in that when I advance the drag lever I have to move the lever up 6 clicks before I even feel a slight engagement of the drag no matter how much tension is on the drag cam. I've adjusted the cam back and forth several times with the same results on the drag lever, and this causes very little adjustable room on the drag lever. Any thoughts?

what is the drag at strike that you are looking for?

Hi Alan, sorry for the late response. Well, as I mentioned, I have to move the drag lever up 6 clicks before there is any drag pressure on the spool.

To answer your question, I would like to move the drag lever up 1 click and have about as much pressure on the spool as if the drag lever was off and only the clicker was engaged. Two clicks up on the drag lever and I would like to feel that the drag was lightly engaged on the spool.

I have 5 Torsas and this 40 is the only one that does not have my above mentioned ability.

my guess is the Cam is worn or the "pins" on the lever arm that engage the Cam are worn.

Are all the cams the same (LRS) on the other reels?    There are numerous versions of Cams that fit the Torsa's and each have a different drag curve
