Title: Fluorocarbon leader material on a bulk spool?
Post by: Bob2650 on April 13, 2026, 10:59:42 PM
I like to cut my leader line off a larger spool because it is cheaper and I decide how long it should be. I see that Fluorocarbon leader material seems to be available only in short expensive pieces. Where could we find spools of top quality 100 pound test 100% Fluorocarbon, for example, to cut our own leaders like we do with all the other kinds of fishing line?
Thanks,
Bob

You can get Berkley Trilene and various Sunline fluoro in bulk spools but only up to 30lb test. 100lb test fluoro is so expensive that a bulk spool would likely be in the realm of $500 or so, which I expect retailers would be reluctant to stock.

No need for a giant bulk spool. A 100 yard spool would be fine.
I see I worded the title incorrectly, sorry.

For sharp teeth fish I prefer to use leader material rather than line to fill spool , leader line is much  tougher to bite off .Don't see much different between nylon or fluorocarbon

I use sunline, it comes in longer spools. Get on their email list, it goes on sale occasionally

Good quality 100 lb fluorocarbon leader material is going to cost two to three bucks per yard. regardless of spool size.  Product sold as fluorocarbon casting line can be half that price.  I've never seen the difference in fluorocarbon leader material versus fluorocarbon casting line explained.  But, it probably has something to do with the density and density would affect bite-off resistance..  I don't think the leader material would be a good place to scrimp on price.  I use Seaguar Blue label.

Sunline does have a couple of Fluorocarbon shock leader products in 100 pound test but only 33 yard spools at $80.99 and $51.99. Plus tax and shipping.
But, That is a step in the right direction, Thanks

Seaguar Blue Label looks like a winner!
I hope there is another cheaper option but this will work!
They sell 80 pound test on 100 yard spools at about $1.25 a yard.
(Melton was the first place I found it on a search.)
Thanks,
Bob
