I've aquired a third Martin Precision 103A spin reel, in great shape.
Mfg. Mohawk NY
1954
A really nice user that I wanted to keep stock. Sort of.
My two 27A Martin's both have factory stamped Martin transparent side plates, the 103A reels did not.
I wanted to make another transparent side cover plate for her, but without sacrificing the original solid plate, as I had done on my other 103A's, for thier bail arm trip bracket, so...
I got to looking at it and thought I could recreate that with something right on my strip bench.
I pulled the pocket clip off of my micro oiler and got creative with it!
It had the perfect shape for the complete bracket match with a little fabrication!
Came out perfect and allowed me to save one factory cover for provenance or for next user to put back on.
This gives me 5 of these splendid reels that I have already hammered the crappie with!
Just posting this up for anyone who's handy and wanted to attempt.
Actually, any reel with a flat side cover plate can be fitted with a transparent one and done much easier, than this style.
I may do one of my Cargem Mignon reels next.
Enjoy!!
Is that a stainless clip? Looks like it was meant to be; re-purposing to its finest.
