Title: Skunked.
Post by: Steve V. on May 04, 2026, 06:19:22 PM
When I fish fresh water it is local ponds. All of the ponds I fish are stocked by the Texas Parks and Wildlife folks. These ponds range from about 10 acres to 33 acres in size. I took two of my grandsons fishing yesterday at one of my go to ponds for small bass and catfish. I set the grandsons up with punch bait for catfish and I fished a wacky worm (two seperate colors actually) for bass. We all got skunked. I usually land 4-5 bass in an hour or so fishing a wacky worm and this was the second time we tried punch bait for the catfish. I fish wacky worms with a mint condition DQ 221 that I got from Fred. I will say this, it's my favorite reel for fresh water. Smooth as butter. I even tried a topwater lure on one of my ABUs just to see if any of the nine separate species that are stocked in the pond were interested. Nope! Still skunked. The best part of the day was when I was driving the grandsons home and they both told me they a fun. It can't get much better than that.

That's teaching fishing not catching. See spending time with Dad was the fun part of their day.  Dominick

Actually Grandpa. Their father passed away at the age of 35 from a heart attack. He used to take them fishing also.

Totally awesome.  Time outdoors with family as opposed to "screen time".  So much better for everyone. - john

Sounds like you're keeping fishing a happy memory for them.

Also sounds like you're training some real fishermen. What do I mean by that? Well, if it's only fun when you're catching, you might not actually enjoy fishing.

Trips like this whether you caught any or not are memories never forgotten by your grandsons.

I took my dad's only fishing pole fishing with my grandsons 2 weeks ago. They both caught fish on it.
It felt like he was with us. :fish
