Title: Reel Seat & rod combos
Post by: jgp12000 on May 11, 2026, 11:48:00 AM
This past week my son-in-law bought 2
New Ugly Stik Striper rods ML version.I have a MH version with an Ambassadeur 6500C3 mounted on, it feels just right.

I had a modern PENN 209 that I got for my youngest grandson & we tried it was too heavy for the rod. So we tried a PENN 9 it was
Balanced ,but the reel was loose in the seat when cranked all the way down.
Heat shrink on the reel foot made it
Secure.

I have run into this over the years
Where the reel you want on a rod just doesn't fit right or is too heavy for the rod you have it slated for.I have taken reels to the store to avoid this, but prefer not doing so.

Heat shrink is a great idea to tighten up a fit. Thanks. Recently ground down the reel seat "ledges" on an older Ugly Stik Tiger Elite jigging rod to fit a Penn Baja on it.

piece of inner tube or heat shrink rubber or cork tape on the seat under the rel feat has tightened it up for me in the past.
