Title: New eBay scam???
Post by: Swami805 on May 26, 2026, 12:06:50 AM
I listed some reels for auction on eBay. I'm getting messages like " how much are you looking to get for ******* reel?"  Seems like they want to get around eBay for some Venmo or related scam
Anyone else have that happen?
Seems scammy to me

I pm'd a guy on eBay and made an offer... there wan't a buy it now. He took it and I payed him. eBay sent me a nasty note saying don't do that... they want the fee!

Happened to me a couple times recently, with different buyers, and I was listing with Buy it Now and no offers. Both times I ended up lowering the Buy it Now price a little to make the sales through eBay.

I put the starting auction price on what I hope to get at a minimum and it's been working ok. If it doesn't sell I lower it
I've had it happen with 3 different buyers but the verbiage is always the same, seems scammy

Buyers that try to end an actual legitimate "Auction" early and Sellers that allow it to happen really p-$$ me off!  >:(  eBay should ban them for those types of actions!  >:D

This has been going on since eBay started. Not a scam per se, mostly people trying to get a better price or to keep the bid for something being run way up in a bidding war.  Trying to bypass the proper process.
