Hey gurus,
What are the possible causes of the scratches shown in pics? A couple of deeper ones on one side shaft - lighter more numerous ones on other. No scratches on sides where crossbar(?) comes out. None below crossbar either. Shaft is from Daiwa 7150.
At that position on the spool shaft, on a large Daiwa spinning reel —- it is likely the SS metal drag discs making those gouges.
Could be that someone installed some that were a little too small, or in some way improper?
Anyway, that is the first place to check.
Best Regards, Fred

Okat, thanks Fred. I examine more closely when I reassemble tomorrow. Russ
If the spool has a spindle that the drags attach on the outside of —- then some bits of sand or something probably got into the spindle hole when the spool was removed —- which would scratch the brass shaft.

Thnkas Fred. It does have a spindle - I will run a qtip through again to see if anything catches or I can feel grit in there. Russ
Looks like someone tried to pull it out of pinion with a pliers.

Good possibility!

Yeah, maybe they didn't know about the oscillation block on the other end. If it has one, better check that...
The previous owner should have gone to alantani.com! Thanks to you all I knew about the oscillation block. If the pliers hypothesis is true (explains the deep gouges for sure) then then that tiny screw and pot metal block are stronger than they look, lol.
