Title: MXJ "Anti Reverse"
Post by: elnath on April 22, 2012, 03:25:13 PM
I have an Avet MXJ (single speed 5.8:1) that has developed an annoying "feature"...no "anti-reverse" that is at least what I would call it if it was a spinning reel.  Basically the drag will only engage if I hold the handle, otherwise the handle just turns in the opposite direction.

I'm relatively confident of my star drags, but I never take apart the levers other than very basic bearing oiling.  Anybody have any likely suggestions, or do I just need to send it off for some TLC?

the reel is supported by one dog... there might be a spring or wire that isn“t functioning that well. Just take it apart and find out... lever drags are easier than star drags IMO

Crud under the plate that holds the dog can cause this, clean it out and grease it.

I looked into it but it will take some mill work that I don't want to do to my reels.

the older reels had a double dog.
