Title: Penn Steel Gears and Washer Size under Gear
Post by: Bryan Young on June 25, 2009, 12:06:39 AM
Hi Alan,

I keep on forgetting to ask you.

Does Penn still have any of the steel gears available for 3/0, 4/0 and 6/0 reels and can you buy them with the shaft gear to the gear ratios match?

Also the washer under the main gear is usually very small in OD.  But noticed that you recommend replacing them with a carbon washer.  What size should you use?  Just under the gear size of the main gear, the same size of the ratchet part of the gear sleeve, the smallest diameter of the ratchet part of the gear sleeve (so that it doesn't interfere with the ratchet)?

As usual, thank you for your help.

Bryan

penn doesn't make plain steel gears for the senators anymore.  too bad.  properly greased, they will last forever.  for the washer underneath the 112h/jigmaster gear, i use a #6-113 that is cut down.  for the 113h, i use a #6-875 that i should cut down but don't.  and for the 114h, i use a #6-114.  they seem to work pretty well.  alan
