That is a very interesting reel. Is the curved lever for controlling the spool?  How old would they be? Thanks for showing.

I guess its from the 80's. This unique reel run on rubber brake, and the lever act like our thumb holding to the spool when casting.
once there's no line tension on the big roller, the rubber brake comes in and stop backslash.
