Title: Penn factory grease
Post by: michaelc on June 04, 2012, 01:21:29 AM
Just recieved a Fathom 25N in the mail.  Spooled it up and after a bit of playing around discovered the drag was not as smooth as it should be when locked down. Opened the reel up and found lots(almost excessive) of blue grease in all the appropriate places.  The same blue grease was also coating the drag washers so I cleaned them up as best I could and replaced Penns "drag grease" with Cals.  The drag is much better, not perfect yet but I think this is only due to some grease residue. Is the blue grease used meant to be dual purpose or is this just the result of slap happy assembly?

it is not supposed to be on the drag washers. it is a hydrocarbon based product and will make the drags sticky.
