Title: Synthetic Lithium Grease
Post by: baycaster on June 22, 2012, 04:45:25 AM
Just want to know if this is a good maintenance grease to use in my reels. It was given to me by a friend

In my experience that stuff is too sticky.  Experiment with it.  Dominick

for me, the stickiness would be a deal breaker.  when you are trying to service 12 reels in an afternoon, the stickiness can be really aggravating.  i have found many of these products to be just no fun to work with.  if it's all you have, it should be fine.  if you are going to work with it day in and day out, you will probably loose patience with it very quickly.   :-\

Thanks for the info. But it's surprising that it's not as sticky as I thought or as it looks like tough. It's a little more translucent than what the picture shows. Will be using it for the moment until my yamaha marine grease I ordered arrives.

Thanks again.

Nothing about this grease says for use in a saltwater or marine enviorment, waterproof, or salt resistant.  I would wait for the right grease & use that somewhere else.          Rudy

The second photo says marine.

I want to try a really sticky/tacky grease for the main gear.  More difficult to apply, more difficult to remove, but it may stay put longer and not melt away.  Any suggestions on a brand?

I use Evinrude Triple Guard Marine Grease on gears and screws. I personally like the sticky tackiness of the grease on these two areas.

Ive opened up reels that haven't been serviced in 4 years and the Triple Guard grease is still prominent on the screws. I used to use this grease in all heavy conventional reels right out of the can. It comes in all size containers too.

Okuma uses a heavy grease I'd love to get. Is that sold commercially?
