Title: Daiwa BG 60
Post by: Andries101 on July 19, 2012, 06:44:30 AM
Hi everyone

My first post but a long time reader ;) Upgrading the drag on a Daiwa BG series to Carbontex is a no brainer. But do you guys think it is worth upgrading the bearings on a new reel. They design doesnt lend itself to being a smooth reel but I am wondering if spending the money would be worth it?

if it were me, i'd probably wait until the original bearings go bad and then replace with the upgraded ones.  like you said, the reel most likely will never be Stella smooth, so no reason to toss out the good original bearings before they go bad.

I would keep the original bb's.  Might go as far as removing the shields, clean and lube the spool bearings with TSI to see whats the maximum you can get with the stock bb's.  Just remember to service/inspect these bb's periodically (darn, no spell check).
