New guy here, Karl, just wanted to say hi. I'm a thirty something years old and have been fishing all my life. Mostly with ABU stuff (of course..). But it's just most recently that I started to get interested in real reel maintenance and repair. I started with my Amb 5500C Pro Shop and it's all down hill from there. Now I'm constantly looking around auction sites for cheap reels that need a little, or more preferably, lots of love. Just today I got a package in the mail with an old Penn Peer 209, made in USA, from the sixties, that will need some attention. Oh joy!
See ya'll around!
/Karl
Karl, welcome to Mr. Tani's neighborhood...
Welcome.....
Welcome aboard Karl.
All the best, Justin
PS There's a great tribute to Abu design here, if you haven't seen it already: http://alantani.com/index.php?topic=5123.0 (http://alantani.com/index.php?topic=5123.0)
I've seen it and went speechless afterwards.
Thanks for the welcome!

Valkommen Karl. You will find a great wealth of knowledge here. I love Abu's as well, the fact that my fav angler is sponsored by them, Mike Iaconelli, is sponsored by them, lol.
welcome. i need to do a full abu tutorial. they are great casting reels!
aloha karl and thanks for joining.
Speaking of Abus, I did a Penn 'Enforcer' yesterday which was basically an exact copy of an Ambassadeur 7500CT (aside from the oval side plates).
I understand there was an arrangement in place to share technology (maybe via Omoto?), but it's always interesting to see how the industry 'cross-pollinates'...
Welcome aboard Karl.
Welcome Karl. Love my only Abu. I use it for everything. Casts easy and since replacing the drags, can actually catch some good size fish.
Welcome Karl, you will never get bored here.
Tjena Karl!
What a warm welcome! Thank you guys!
Speaking of ABU, a close friend to my family worked at Svängsta (ABU's factory in Sweden) when I was a kid, and he used to bring home gear and give to us kids.. Like christmas every time. :)
Penn + ABU sounds like a match made in heaven. I haven't fished with a Penn reel yet, but as soon as I'm finished with my Peer 209 that will change!
I'm also looking into Penn Slammer spinners. Looks and feels very nice.
Tjenixen Karl, and you'll surely find a wealth of information on this site.
If you enjoy "reel porn" you will be supplied for years to come.
If you haven't already visited I'd recommend a visit to the Swedish forum Fiskesnack.com where I've posted a couple of stripdowns, mostly ABUs but also the odd Daiwa and a Penn 113H is in the near future.

Won't do much good if you don't read Swedish decently well :o
