I found a reel deal transmission model #110 at a garage sale, paid 20 bucks. It was still in the box.It even had the instructions in it. Has anyone ever used one? It says it is a 3 to 1 rato. It lists the reels that can be used. monofils, surfmasters, squiders, beachmasters, jigmasters, and the 110 senator.
It dosen't mention the 2/0,or 113. I'am thinking the 1/0 would be perfect with the 3 to 1 rato. =9 to 1. This could really get a tady jig moving .I would be fishing for yellowtail,on the yo-yo. Am I on the right track here? or should I donate it to the Smithsonium? I am asking, because I don't own a 110,and they are pretty hard to find.
if it is what i think it is, you have a real gem. can you post some photos?
I have never posted a photo before. I will look for wifes camera.
I've heard of those before, but have never seen one. Imagine a 3:1 ratio. It could turn a Jigmaster into a 1:12 ratio. :o Neat stuff, but I wonder how practical it is with the faster reels?
They are collectors items usually fetching over $200.00.
They look ridiculous on a reel and sometimes a nigfhtmare to install.
Conchydong is right, there seems to be a few that like to collect those, don't ask me why :-\. Keep that eyesore in the box and try to sell it and then you can get a nice reel. I've never seen one go for over $100 though.
I am having a hard time downloading. My wife has 900+photos on the camera. I will have to wait until she gets home . I am afraid I will wipe them out,or crash the p.c.
A couple have come through the shop. They are neat. However, unless installed very carefully, you end up cracking the sideplate. Also, 12:1 is all speed and no power. Remember, Avet discovered that the 8:1 LX was too fast to be fished. But I'd still like to have one!!
I found a couple of photos on Stripers on Line. Check them out. Dominick

Ive got one that i dont use. PM me if your interested
That's It. My is black.
As for reeling in a fish, one would kick it into low gear.
I'd put it on flea bay and sell it and purchase something practical (unless you are a collector).

If he is a buddy he must be here, is he?
Maybe we can get to see his collection.
I thought I was your buddy :-\
I just gave one to a disabled vet, in Hawaii. The reels of choice were a 99, 259, 60, or a 4/0. In order to get the "U" bracket on some reels, like a 4/0 grinding on the side plate is required. This can leave a open spot for water intrusion at the main gear. Positioning of the "U" bracket on the reel is critical.
When this is done correctly they work well. Being a two speed they are complex. They are very well made, the internals have good tolerance and great engineering. The best, and worst thing about a Reel-Deal is the spline that fits into the reel handle nut hole. It is a very nice, and durable piece. But trying to find, or make a spare is a reel chore.
The other brand is the Powerhouse. It is a single speed, not as bulky a Reel-Deal. The spline piece is Hex stock, and hardened. It is easy to duplicate.
When using a Powerhouse you must short pump a fish, this is due to the gear ratio. Fishing wise the Powerhouse is the preferred choice buy the guys who used them a lot.
YoYo fishing is at another level due to the speed form these things. My old friend Chuck Graham is the best I ever saw with these things. Many time the only guys to get bit were using a trans. This was for fish who like speed, like Yellowtail, Bluefin Tuna, and Wahoo.
The only reel built today that might substitute for a transmission would be Okumas Cedros lever drag 20. It has a retrieve of 62.2"
If anyone has one of these transmission available for sale I might be interested.

Up date... I came across a squidder 140. It mounted up easy enough. and I gave it a spin, and it really spins fast.
I took it out over the week end just to see how it reeled . It was akward reeling it in,on that wide little reel. I am thinking it would work good on something a little slower ,and narrower. I think a long beach 60,or delmar 85 might be a perfect fit.
John,
I seem to see these come up on Craigslist in LA and OC quite often.

I know this thread is a few years old but I just came on and I have a black one I'll part with. It's on a 250 surfmaster.
