Hi Guys,
Fishing with a friend in his boat out of Gorran Haven Cornwall UK yesterday I caught what is so I am told is a good size sea bass for Cornwall, 8lbs 8ozs. My previous largest bass was 4lb 2oz so I am well pleased. I caught the fish on a fly rod that I had converted with a butt to take a spinning reel. The reel I used was a Shimano baitrunner LX2000 with 8lb mono. It was a relief to see the fish finally in the net and brought on board.

Awesome Mike. Hope to see some pics of that beast.
A good fish, well caught.
A pic would be good.
Hi guys,
Thanks for the comments, as for a photo, I have no idea how to post one!
Mike.
Posting photos,
Don't know how that happened, but it looks like I've just learned how to post photos! Unfortunately I never put a ruler along side but the fish was 25 inches long.

Nice bass Mike,very tasty too.
Only allowed to keep two in any 24 hour period over here due to commercial overfishing.
Last time I caught good bass was out of St Peters Port using live sand eels.
Hi Tom,
Yes it made good eating, the fishing in the Channel Islands is excellent, I am sorry now that I left Jersey to live in Cornwall!
Mike.
mike, it looks 6 feet long! ;D
The weather here seems set fair, so we are off out tomorrow to try again.
I will try to catch you the 6 footer Alan!!!
Mike.

Sal

Hi Guys,
Well yesterday was a waste of time, not one fish, I will have to try again for Alans 6 footer!!
I don't know if our bass are the same as a mullaway, perhaps someone can enlighten us.
Yes it must have been a magic fish to post it's own photo!!!!
Mike.
mulloway and sea bass are diff; species, look similar.
my books dont show sea bass
had a look at wiki.dusky cob in sth africa, also indo-china japan etc.
Been searching the net but still non the wiser.
Found this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_sea_bass
We have always just called them bass.
Mike.
They are very similar to your striped bass although seldom exceeding 18lbs. A culinary delicacy in Europe and now protected from overfishing in Ireland.
Thanks for the info Tom, bass was always bass to me, never thought much about the exact species.
Just nice when you catch a good one!!
Mike.
