Title: Metal drag washer polishing ?
Post by: Redfish King on September 23, 2012, 08:22:14 PM
I like to buff metal drag washers to a mirror finish seems like that is an awesome surface to create a smooth non grabbing friction to slow down Mr. big.
Recently I purchased the metal washers from Smooooooth Drag and found them to have a nicely smooth scoring on them but was expecting them to be mirror finished. The washers are very flat obviously machined very well in contrast to some washers that seem to me punched out during manufacturing. Thats where I think you are getting a big plus when buffing the washers and expanding the drag surface. If you dont know what im talking about slide a metal washer across 600 grit sand paper and observe the scoring pattern you will find the washer to have high and low spots.Thats when I go to a larger grit and knock down the high spots then buff to a mirror. But my question is mirror -vs- scoring whats most correct ?
