Title: Calcutta 50
Post by: nhlstevens on September 30, 2012, 04:33:14 PM
I took apart my Calcutta 50 to clean and grease it and now I can't get it to lock so that I can't pull the line out any suggestions?

G'day and welcome nhl,
There are several possibilities but, first off, the keyed A/R ratchet (#1828) may not be bedded properly onto the drive shaft (#1826).
The clutch pawl (#1833) may also be binding (eg it can slip under the ratchet, if misaligned).
Let us know how you get on.
Good luck, Justin

Which way is the clutch pawl supposed to be in order to install correctly?

Flat side down, with the pin facing up (towards the side plate).
Tension spring first, then pawl (with the end-angle aligned in the set plate slot).
The clutch cam then slides onto the pin (on the pawl).
The pic below may help.
Good luck, Justin

this is a 250 that might be close.

find the clutch plate (key #1233).  this is the "in gear" postion.

push the clutch plate down to the "free" position.

the clutch bar (key #1316) is now in the "free" position.

push it to the "in gear" position.

Thanks justin and alan for your help. It took a little while but after taking it apart and putting it back together I realized that I had the Anti Reverseratchet on backwards. May the fishing Gods smile upon you.
