Tore down a recently purchased Penn 12LT and installed Boca bearings. Cleaned and greased things up with Cals. Sending the reel to Cals for blueprinting and Super 12 (machine out for and install larger drag washer and plate). Question is: what would be the advantage of having him intall a second dog. I plan to to fish heavy braid in Costa Rica for sailfish, roosters and tuna and don't understand what a second dog would do for this reel.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I would - for all the reasons double-dogging a 113H Tank was a good idea.
If you can afford the extra cost, you can't go wrong...
Good luck, Justin
PS Love to see some pics when it's all done - I'm a big fan of the Super 12 ;)
Double dogging is like wearing a belt and suspenders, and in Costa Rica that's a good idea.
The dog keeps the handle from turning in reverse, if that happens while a fish is running it can bust your knuckles up and possibly wrench your wrist pretty good. It also would mean you would be wrestilng a tuna with your wrist, good luck.
Double dogging adds insurance that that won't happen. If one dog breaks the other is there to take up the slack, if the dogs are arranged in a specific way then they will work together to increase the strength of the system and reduce strain on the sleeve. For the money your spending I wouldn't imagine not doing it.

Thank you Justin and Ron for the feedback. I sent the reel to Cal today. I will post pics of it when I get it back.
