That is one good looking Penn with a lot of body armor.
Oh..by the way, this is double dogged. With alternating dogs. Now I'm just waiting for Lee and the SS dogs.
Oh Yea..................Penn modified... awesome...
Very nice, still looks like a Penn.
I have been wanting to ask that question for a while now. What's the cost of such an upgrade?
It's a Penn ready to do battle.
Cape fish, the side plates were from eBay about a year and a half ago.. I think about $100. These came with the bearings and SS gears and sleeve. The spool and frame were through chark bait about another $100. Drags and handle about another $35. So all told about $235.. Bullet proof....priceless!
It's got the heart of a Penn, just a new suit. ;D Bob

if you could find the parts, probably about $150. it's more a personal statement. i'd get one of tom's frames. they're really nice. http://alantani.com/index.php?topic=184.0 he has one for the squidder and one for the jigmaster.
Solid reel. Couldn`t help notice the thick washer on the handgrip. Should it not be on the outside of the arm, contacting the grip sleeve?
Basto, thanks for pointing that out. Now I have 7 or 8 more just like it that need to be done. Oops!!
heheh... ;D
YES, imo it's still a Penn with their original genius design of the star drag and dis-engaging pinion etc. The guts are the reel, imo.
A Newell is just a Penn too, with different materials for the spool and frame etc.
Just open the inside and the guts of a Newell are Penn's original design.
I think the Newell reels are actually easier to work on. IMO they are as robust in their materials. Lighter but not as strong.

X2!
If a Bushmaster is an AR and a Wilson Combat is a 1911 then it is a Penn. A very nice one, by the way.

But if you put a 350 Chevy in a '32 Ford Roadster what do you have ???

You have a travesty! A 5.0 Ford in a 53 Chevy pickup is pure joy, however.

I've always been partial to the ford FE series, especially the 427 side oiler ;D
Sure,
The FE block is about the nicest performance engine around, especially with a set of Shelby aluminum heads. However, I think it is overkill in a cruising pickup, I'd rather have the gas mileage and lighter weight.
Funny how I can see that in a car, but I want to build the smallest Penn conventional reel ever strong enough to handle JAWS!!
