Title: Penn Squidder approximate age
Post by: lserio on January 04, 2013, 01:17:46 PM
I have 2 Penn Squidders 140, which have "200 yards" stamped on the reel seat.

When did Penn make theses reels, or when did they chnage the stamping on the reel seat?

Thanks

The reel seat part number for the 140 is 30-200 and is common to at least another six Penn models.
I have never seen one with the line capacity stamped on.
According to Scott's this model was first made before 1941.
Is the stamping identical on both reels?

Yes, both say "200 yards"

One squidder I have is in the original box, spare spool and has the catalog # 7.
The second reel, no box.

I was guessing they were old but was not sure.

Thanks for the info.

Sorry about messing up your earlier post on this.

The "yard" is new to me.

No problem.

Actually the reel seat says "200 yards No. 9"

Not sure if these reels are worth anything or if I should just use them this season.

Depending on the condition they can fetch good prices. Having the original box and spare spool should help.
The  rarer, narrower 146 models fetch top prices, see link. A  nice pair should be worth looking at(see link) ;) ;D
