Title: First post from Gone Fishin

Hello everyone,

I've been reading this forum for some time now so thought it best to sign up and say Hello.  I'm a technical person so I really appreciate the good information here and I have been impressed with the caring that the members have shown in the family section.

I recently retired and will be moving to Thailand in a few months where I will be volunteering at an orphanage there.  I'm looking forward to fishing in the nearby resort lakes which are stocked with huge fish.

My limited fishing experience with reels is with the small fresh water variety.  I'm currently shopping for a reel capable of handling a cat fish up to 100 lbs.  I'll be asking some specific questions regarding that reel later.

Thanks to all of you for your warm welcome.

Bryan---I appreciate your kind words; I'm sure those children will make a difference in my life too.
Alan--After I get settled in Thailand, I will take your advice and try to figure out Photobucket.  Fortunately most of the volunteers are 20 somethings and will probably be able to get me started.  I'm hoping there are some nearby places with small fishes.  I'd love to be able to take an 8 to 12 yr old out to catch his first fish.  Can you imagine that photo?!

Mel--I looked up Maroopon's youtube videos and found them very informative.  Action was fast and furious at the Bungsampan Lake.  There are more of these fishing resort lakes around Bangkok than I had realized.  I might go fishing in one or two of them when I am in the Bangkok area.  I will be living in Chiang Mai which is Northern Thailand.  Fortunately, the price to fish in the Chiang Mai lakes is considerably less than those around Bangkok.
