Title: Avet SX 5.3 New
Post by: handi2 on January 22, 2013, 06:28:15 PM
Hello,

I just purchased a new Avet SX 5.3 reel for my daughter in law who fishes with us here in the upper Gulf of Mexico, Pensascola area. Green is here favorite color so I had to do it. Also I have never owned one. After servicing the reel as shown here and using the stock drag settings should I be looking for any issues?

Thank you

I believe stay below 9# max at strike or you will have pinion bearing failure.  Ramp up slowly and test, and repeat until you reach the desired strike setting.

I received the reel and obviously she was very happy and my son freaked out. I was happy to see that all screws, and hardware were assembled with grease. I don't know what kind but it is very sticky.

All I did was apply a few drops of oil here and there and grease the drag washer. The machining was excellent..!!
