Post by: realmedic on December 12, 2009, 01:40:53 AM
Here you go alan. as requested. this is what i purchased for greasing bearings and from this actual store. they sent it along quite quickly. you may want a few of these for differnt greases depending on if your doing fresh or salt water reels or bearings.

here is a blog from tackle tour that tells more about the greaser

for cleaning bearings i went with this product to make quick work of it from this store and they sent me their blaster right quick as well.

i use the CRC carb cleaner in the bearing blaster to make cleaning quick as well as easy. but a word to the wise is you may still want to open the bearing up to make sure it is truely clean before repacking.

hey alan i have an extra bearing blaster new still in package if you need one just holler at me as im sure you and i can work something out. if not at least i will have an extra one of i ever mneed it.  ;) ;D

david, thanks a million!  i often have to go back and forth to clean out bearings when i have the shields off, so i don't think i'd trust having the bearings clean without removing them.  plus, the bearings that have to be perfectly clean are re-installed open anyway.

the bearing packer is another matter.  i like the design.  i think i'll ask my machine shop friend to make one that attaches to a grease gun.  i'll see about getting several different sizes made.  alan

alan if you get a size made just right for freshwater reels let me know as i can always use one. as far as the fresh water reels go though the only open bearings ive seen are the shimano arb bearings.
