Is the gears in the cardiff plastic or brass? If plastic can you replace it to brass?

Main Gear is Bronze
Pinion Gear is Stainless
Line guide Gears are both Bronze and Plastic depending on the gear in question.
Can you change to brass? Quite possibly, but they are not available. The plastic gears are known as insurance prevention gears because if you get your fingers caught between teh line winder and frame of the reel, the plastic gears are intended to strip, and therefore, preventing major injury, and potential lawsuits.
The plastic levelwind gears are sometimes referred to as "lawyer gears"
