Question Alan or anyone who might have some familiarity with this reel: on the Calcutta D, as far as I can tell in the guts of this reel, the only parts that are not identical between the 300 and the 400 are the main drive gear and the pinion gear. I believe the gears are the same overall size though because they take the same washers, etc. The 400 is 5.1:1 with 25 or 27" (I forget which) line pickup per crank, while the 300 is 5.6:1 with 30" pickup. A friend wants me to put the 300 gears in his 400. He seems to think he will gain even more line pickup with the higher gear ratio on the bigger spool. See any holes in his theory? Anything else you think I should look out for? Thank you
