Title: ATD right sideplate bearing
Post by: Jim on March 11, 2013, 06:43:04 PM
Just got back from Fred Hall show, met Alan in person, had a nice chat and asked him about a pesky bearing in my Atd's. Talked to Garry Sato the next day and he asked ME about the same bearing! Seems to have a high propensity to locking up apparently from salt drying inside. I relayed what Alan had told me regarding grease packing.

Well, guess what I found when I pried off the seal on my replacement bearing this morning. Yep. A tiny tiny dab of grease was all there was in my brand new boca bearing, shipped "greased" from the manufacturer. No problem, cleaned it out and packed it.

Thanks Alan! Hopefully I won't be replacing that one every two years anymore.

Very good Jim.  If you fish a lot, try repacking the bearing every year.
